You have entered
room "Town Square - Best Lil' Chathouse 1" . . .
That's what the
glowing neon sign said when you entered. There was the fireplace, the
hottub and pool with a slide, the bar, the Couch of Confusion, and of
course The Loft. The door was known to hit more than one snert in a
well-deserving derrire on their way out. Above it all hangs a huge
chandelier - if you wipe off its dust, you can just make out the carved
names of newly-ordained full-fledged hosties. My hostie mentor HostSilver's
initials are up there, as well as a certain HostShadw's. The snerts
who have inherited this chatroom will never know it the way we did.
There's no shrine there to all the Regs, but there ought to be.
Here's something
of a Reg tribute from my many mis-spent days as a reg and host in AOL's
BLCH1 -- way, way back when regs and hosts could out-number the snerts
(I could explain in vivid details how decisions made by AOL in all it's
infinite wisdom led to the break up of this online community, but who
wants to digress? <wg>).
To the right is
a rough list of regs who frequented BLCH1 from 1997 until our online
family had pretty much disappeared by 2000. Please do not shoot me if
your screename has been omitted - this is yet a work in progress!
BLCH 1's regs were
the exception, not the rule (The BLCH Main had regs, but then, they
weren't us <g>). You could click through a hundred rooms and not
find the same kind of chemistry we had.
I don't know what'll
be accomplished by posting all this old junk LoL But if any old reg
should stumble upon this, it was made for you.
Best
Lil Chathouse One History
I'll get around
to adding this stuff when I get around to adding this stuff <g>
The "Old Class"
including Firebir316, Smiley0006, SR REGANT, TeeBabe 1, Yap2much, Creestol,
Quinnalt, Poopsy73 were among the Regs of BLCH1 from before 1997. There
were many more I knew by name alone.
MornZephyr can be
credited for being the founding matriarch of our motley crew (March
1997 onward - Zeph, James, Amy, then Dante', Kat in July(?), and I came
aboard that September). She went out of her way welcoming newbies (for
weeks she flooded me with my first chatwavs, proggies and chainletters)
and making them part of the Family. In case you never had a chance to
met her, she was easy to spot as she typed everything in Gaelic. Without
getting into too much detail, Zeph made it clear we as a "family"
had something like a code of conduct, and a certain number of us older
Regs were picked to be heads of this family (I can remember a number
of pretty intense meetings we had on the matter) and to look after the
younger "sisters" and "brothers" - seeing to it
they didn't get preyed upon by the low-lifes online. We were pretty
effective at driving away snerts without hostie assistance. Whether
you agreed with the family idea or not, Zeph should be credited for
the start of getting "us" together. After a year in and out
of BLCH1, Zeph left our room for good.
We had arranged
(well, mostly Kat did <g>) the first official family reunion for
BLCH1 back in 1998 in Omaha, attended by Kat, Linda and Rick and their
daughter Jamie, and your's truely (we hit the local casino and talked
about everybody else who didn't attend <g>). Regardless, we did
pretty good meeting each other in IRL meetings on our own.
1998 was probably
our peak year for Regs. Many buddylists hit their max limit of 99 and
we still couldn't get everyone on. Most of your playnames to the right
were familiar to all in that year.
1998 was also the
year we took a hit with our hosts as we lost virtually all our volunteers
(which equalled a full week of hosted chats sometimes 2-3 shifts deep)
due to big changes within aol. Host PCCL KitKat was the last Reg to
regularly host BLCH1.
About 1999 Barb
arranged our most successful BLCH 1 Get-Together of Regs up in Michigan.
The campout was attended by Deb, her hubby and her son Ty, Diana, Will
and his three boys, Robin and her kids, Scott and Jen and thier son
Robbie, and Barb's family.
By 2000, attrition
took its heavy toll -- there was little point sticking it out in a now
snert-dominated chatroom. Aol would permanently remove the BLCH rooms
from the list of its hosted chatrooms. Linda and Kat tried hosting in
the SAGE area for a bit. E-mail and IM's have kept us in-touch since,
as well as Kat's Cinema Chat
on Friday nights.
Where
The Holy-Heck Are We Now?
Seems like everybody
would always be asking me where someone else was and the latest news...
so here's my run down for you enquiring minds out there. As of Feb 2005:
* This month Carrie, Malina, Jill, Scott, Ken, Linda, Deb have all been
visiting the chatroom ... yeah! The Gazette has made an iffy reappearance
... boo! We've heard from Rick, Eddie, Kevin, TJ, Becky and Pat ...
yeah!
* Barb, Kat
and Todd are routinely on aol, though chats in the BLCH1 are
a thing of the past. Today we gather at aol
- Cinema Chat. After a stint as a SAGE host, Kat has been hosting
(as Host EMV Pinhead) in there
on Friday nights 6-8pm CT. Scott drops by too. Val and
Court used to (before they left). We even twisted Linda's
arm into making a visit! Sometimes Marge (Barb's handler) or
Meagan (Barb's poptart girl) will visit.
And, since this
is Cinema Chat, we of course
spend the two hours talking about playing on Neopets.com. (see our lookups
at: Kat's,
Barb's,
Meagan's,
Scott's, Todd's)
You'd better pay a visit before aol eliminates hosted rooms all together.
* Linda is
also online 24/7. has turned from the dark side and no longer is working
for aol. After Sage hosting she'd moved on to other online challenges
(you may not know it, but you've probably already seen some of her work
featured on the AOL Welcome Screen).
You can contact
her through the addy given on her brand new witty web blog at:
http://www.groovynoodles.com/blog/. A hardcore blogger, and free
of aol's restrictions, Linda's looking for paybacks!
* Rick is floating
around (though not on aol), waiting for his opportunity to amuse. I'd
tell you more but most of what Linda tells me isn't flattering =)
* Scott has been
very busy conquering the world, but somehow he's retained his attachment
to aol.
* Di, Courtney
and TJ are proud moms now. Though they've gotten on with family
life, might still like to get a friendly hello from a old friend by
email.
* Malina
can still be contacted through aol.
* Shann formerly
said goodbye to aol in 2002.
* Carrie and
Ken came back to aol in 2004 after leaving in 2002 =D Carrie is
on all day long, she's probably still trying to find somebody who will
take Ken off her hands... hehe
* Di has
just left aol in March 2004 but can still be contacted through email.
* Val and
Courtney returned in 2003, but left again by late 2004.
* Larry is
still seen on aol once in a blue moon.
* Pat (Fog)
was seen a time or two in Kat's chat in 2004.
* Kalyn was
still in BLCH main in 2003.
* Some have even
gotten married who met on here, and most have moved on. Most of the
rest of the old screennames are gone from the member profiles.
* Not a reg can
be found in BLCH One. BLCH Main has a couple from time to time, but
this room has faded too. From what I understand (I haven't confirmed
this), all chatrooms that make up People Connection are no longer hosted,
making this prime Snert territory.
* HostShadw
hung up the thwapper in June 2000. The DRAGONZfyr name
has been retired since early 2003.
Hmmm... I wonder who that leaves in charge
of this site now?
;)~
